Our Story
HISTORICAL TIMELINE
1952
Founded in the state of New York as Oradell Construction, Inc. By Charles H. Cherna, Solomon Messer, and Otto Hoffman.
1973
Future owner, Jeffrey Cherna starts full time,
alongside his father and uncle.
1974
Oradell Construction, Inc. becomes a Butler Builder
1988
Ownership changed to Jeffrey and Mindy Cherna, reincorporated as Oradell Construction Company, Inc.
2000
The company was moved from Totowa, New Jersey to the current location in Roseland, New Jersey
2023
Daniel and Jason Cherna became the third- generation owners
Brave Beginnings
The 1950s were a time of bustling optimism. The impending commercial construction boom was ushered in with revolutionary inventions like electronic welding and tower cranes. In 1952, three friends, through either sheer luck or careful planning, decided to seize a piece of that growth and they become business associates—that was the brave beginning of Oradell Construction Company, Inc. (OCCI).
Charles H. Cherna, Solomon Messer, and Otto Hoffman founded Oradell Construction in Totowa, New Jersey. Their innovative and pioneering spirit kept OCCI busy and growing for decades, through some of the toughest times our industry has seen.
Consistently gaining commercial and industrial construction expertise, OCCI powered through the energy crises of the 70s and learned effective techniques for building to the strictest energy codes with cutting-edge products.
In 1973, a young man named Jeffrey Cherna started at OCCI, working alongside his father and uncle.
New Leadership
After more than 30 years of continued learning, OCCI leadership passed the reigns, and in 1988, that young man became the new owner and President. Holding on to their original vision of reliable and dedicated expert construction, Cherna led OCCI into the next wave of industrial and commercial construction innovation.
With Cherna’s steady hand at the helm, OCCI flourished through the rise of computer-aided design, the beginnings of sustainable building, and the necessary and welcome increases to safety and health regulations.
The Next, and Proudest, Step
After an eventful 3 decades, in 2022, Cherna took the proudest step any father can take when Jason and Daniel Cherna took over as third-generation owners. Over 70 years of dedication and efforts continue in their capable hands and they live and work proudly with the legacy built before them.
